Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast at the end of August 2017. Coastal communities were devastated by a storm that just refused to quit.

Harvey made landfall near Rockport, TX as a Category 4 hurricane and dumped 41-60 inches of rainfall in Texas and Louisiana.

Thousands of water rescues we done by authorities and civilians that traveled from all over the U.S. to help with efforts.

SERVPRO of Clinton & Gratiot Counties Fire and Smoke Cleaning

Fire Damage SERVPRO of Clinton & Gratiot Counties Fire and Smoke Cleaning Fire and Smoke in a destroyed home.

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Clinton & Gratiot Counties will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

Our Fire Damage Restoration Services

Since each smoke and fire damage situation is a little different, each one requires a unique solution tailored for the specific conditions.  We have the equipment, expertise, and experience to restore your fire and smoke damage.  We will also treat your family with empathy and respect and your property with care.

Outdoor Water Faucets

Water Damage Outdoor Water Faucets Outdoor Water Faucets and pipes should be checked before use

One of the leading causes of water damage in the Spring, aside from the weather of course, is outdoor faucets. The pipes leading to your outdoor faucets can freeze and burst in the winter but, because the water is off, you won't notice these breaks until the spring. The best way to check is to have one person stand inside the house where the pipe for the faucet leads outside, while the other person turns the water on outside. If you do notice a leak, turn the water off immediately and contact a plumber. Also be sure to shut the water off at the inside shut off.  If you have a leak that gets out of hand, we are available 24/7 for all of your restoration needs.

Community Pets Are Important Too! Charlotte Fire Department showing off their new pet oxygen mask!

Back in 2013 we had a customer that had a house fire and his dog was saved by his local Fire Department. However, the Fire Department had to use a human oxygen mask as their department didn't have pet masks. Our customer wanted to donate masks to his local Fire Department in thanks for saving his pets life, but was unable to do so himself. We decided that this would be a good opportunity to give back to our local communities. So far we have been able to donate to:

Potterville Fire Department

Benton Township Fire Department

Windsor Charter Township Fire Department

Clinton Area Fire and Rescue

Olivet City Fire Department

Bath Township Fire Department

Charlotte Fire Department

Elsie Area Fire Department

Ovid & Middlebury Townships Fire Departments

Breckenridge Fire Department

We are very proud to have been able to help out these fire departments and are continuing to contact local fire departments to see if they need them as well.
